Today I write from the hotel restaurant in Munich while eating breakfast. Chris and I normally don’t eat breakfast, but have started when included with our room. The breakfast buffets here range from your stereotypical eggs, bacon and pancakes to a salad bar! We’ve been taking full advantage of the fresh food to offset everything else we’ve been eating.
Prior to arriving in Munich we stopped by Heidelberg for one evening.
I enjoyed walking around Heidelberg. The colors of the buildings coupled with a dramatic landscape made Heidelberg a very visually stimulating city. After walking around, we went to a restaurant that the hotel manager recommended. I was very amused at myself for ordering a serving of sauerkraut off the menu.

After dinner, we took our stuff to the Waschsalon to do laundry. Now, let me share a story. Prior to 2020, laundry was the source of many tiffs in our household. Stain on the shirt? Maybe it’ll come out. Gym gear, work clothes and towels in one load? Nothing wrong with that. Whites and darks, eh whatever. Chris did all our laundry. Fast forward a couple years, your’s truly prepared a laundering kit for this trip with two different types of stain solutions (oil or coffee) and two different types of detergents (cotton or wool). Chris and I tagged team laundry. I treated the stains while he figured out the temperature setting on the machine. We got some funny looks from the college kids. On our walk back to the hotel, we got caught in a downpour. We waited under an awning for a few minutes for the rain to pass but ultimately decided to sprint down the street with a bag full of clean clothes. We looked pretty silly, but managed to get back with mostly dry clothes.
We squeezed in Heidelberg Castle in the morning before departing for Munich. The walk up to the castle and castle itself was stunning.

We wanted to get to Munich before it started raining again so we took the most direct path. The roads are way nicer than the ones in California. No potholes? Win! Highlights from the drive include the sheer volume of corn fields (ethanol), freight trucks, road construction and animal crossings California has yet to figure out. .
